Abstract
In studies conducted during 1946 and 1947, the beginning of floral differentiation in the olive (Olea europaea) was found, in most cases, to occur during the mo. of March, about 8 wks. before full bloom. This was true for all vars. used (Mission, Manzanillo, and Sevillano) as well as for the 5 sections of Calif. from which bud samples of the 3 vars. were obtained. No change occurred in the microscopic appearance of the buds from the time they were formed the preceding summer until floral parts appeared in March.
