Abstract
Two laboratory experiments were conducted to test the extent to which initial impressions of applicants formed from paper credentials bias information recalled from interviews with these applicants. When describing a candidate with poor credentials subjects recalled less favorable information from the interview itself, perceived the interviewee as exhibiting fewer favorable behaviors and traits in the interview, and rated performance in answering the questions of the interviewer as poorer. Keywords
