“Protein A” from Staphylococcus Aureus

Abstract
Summary: Arthus-like reactions in rabbits are produced by the interaction of human γG-globulin and a cell wall protein (protein A) from Staphylococcus aureus. The skin lesions are produced either by intradermal injection of preformed protein A-γ-globulin precipitates or by intradermal injection of protein A into rabbits that had previously received human γG-globulin intravenously. The skin reaction is regarded as not due to an antigen-antibody reaction but rather to a pseudo-immune reaction between protein A and human γG-globulin.
