Abstract
When Cabot introduced the Clinical Pathological Conference (CPC) at the turn of the century, gross and microscopical pathology was a rapidly developing new field. Accurate morphologic diagnosis had become common only in the late 19th century. The physicians most eager to keep up with advances in scientific medicine made a large and appreciative audience for the CPC, which became a tradition.Over the decades the conferences served several purposes.
