Abstract
Are the religions domesticating religious education? Is the 1988 Education Reform Act undermining the educational value of religious education? This paper seeks to distinguish between ‘educational’ and ‘religious’ values and to consider how a pedagogy can be developed which delivers both as a means of enhancing the spiritual, moral, emotional and religious development of pupils. The work of the Religion in the Service of the Child Research Project at the University of Birmingham is described.
