Abstract
THE term pancreaticoduodenal cancer was introduced by Child1 to characterize a group of malignant tumors that arise in the region of the ampulla of Vater. It therefore includes tumors of the head of the pancreas, the ampulla of Vater, the common bile duct and the duodenum. All these cancers have in common the fact that a relatively standardized operation, pancreaticoduodenectomy, has been employed in their removal. Carcinomas of the body and tail of the pancreas present a different technical problem and have therefore been excluded from the present study.Since Whipple and his associates2 described a method of surgical approach . . .Keywords
