Abstract
Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) determinations on the Lancer Coagulyzer (a photoelectric clot sensing instrument) were compared with APTT’s obtained by the standard manual method. No statistically significant difference between the Coagulyzer and the manual methods was found when APTT determinations in plasma samples containing various concentrations of Factor VIII were compared. The coefficient of variation for the Coagulyzer was 2.05% and that for the manual method was 3.79%. The Coagulyzer was sensitive to 30% Factor VIII. The Coagulyzer is an acceptable method of performing APTT and may be very useful where bulk processing of APTT is necessary. Keywords
