Effects of Phenyltoloxamine in Alcoholics

Abstract
Phenyltoloxamine, 400 mg or 800 mg daily, or matching placebos were given to 26 Skid Row alcoholics in a double-blind study. Patients'' reports and clinical impressions were used as a basis for judging improvement. The trend (not significant using the chi-square method) was that the placebo response was equal to or better than the drug response in all areas studied. The incidence of drinking in both groups was the same.
