A Precolumn Cold Trap and Rapid Reinjection System for Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography with Capillary Columns

Abstract
An in-line, post-pyrolysis precolumn cold trap and rapid reinjection system for pyrolysis gas chromatography with glass capillary columns was designed. The system allows the effective isolation of the pyrolysis step from the separation process and extends several pyrolysis parameters normally constrained by the chromatography. The design employs independent temperature and carrier gas controls in the pyrolysis chamber, inlet splitter injection port, and chromatographic column. Several experimental variables were investigated and a discussion of their interdependent effects is presented.
