The proton affinity of organometallic compounds possessing an N-alkylimino-group

Abstract
(C5H5Fe)2(CO)3(CNMe) is readily protonated in dilute aqueous acid to give a stable complex, (C5H5Fe)2(CO)3(CNHMe)+, containing a bridging 〉C = NHMe group: treatment of C5H5Fe(CNMe)3 + and C5H4MeMn(NO)(CNMe)2 + with C6F5Li give C5H5Fe(CNMe)2C(C6F5)= NHMe+ and C5H4MeMn(NO)(CNMe)C(C6F5)= NHMe+, respectively, as major products, arising from protonation of the expected product during work-up: (Ph3P)2Pt-[C(Ph)= NMe]I is protonated by NH4PF6 to give (Ph3P)2Pt[C(Ph)= NHMe]I+PF6 .
