Absorption fo Oral Thyroxine in Hypothyroid and Normal Man

Abstract
The absorption of an orally administered dose of 125I-labeled thyroxine was determined in 13 untreated and 5 partially treated hypothyroid patients and compared with thyroxine absorption in 15 euthyroid control subjects. The rate of absorption in the hypothyroid patients appeared to be as rapid as that of the controls. There was no significant difference in the mean absorption of the hypothyroid patients (74.8 ± 17.1%) and the controls (68.0 ± 12.6%) 24 hr after the dose. These data indicate that malabsorption of thyroxine is not a feature of hypothyroidism.
