Abstract
Mathematical features of the first order partial differential equations of current two-phase models are recalled and discussed. The general form of these equations is used to bring out the nature of the difficulties which are encountered when some characteristic directions are complex. It is shown that, even in this case, two-phase flow problems can be well posed. Keywords
