Abstract
Fifty‐six cases of liver disorder in pregnancy are discussed. In only a few was the diagnosis certain. The great majority were Italian and Greek patients. Half were primigravidæ; half the perinatal deaths were amongst those women with three or more children. Twenty‐five per cent of the babies were premature. The highest serum bilirubin levels were found in those women whose babies died. Anaemia associated with thalassæmia minor was present in 19.5%. Preeclampsia was present in 30%. The incidence of primary post‐partum haemorrhage was 22%. Urobilinogen was detected in the urine of all mothers whose babies died. The perinatal mortality was 14.3%.
