Abstract
We present the results of a systematic experimental investigation of the Auger line shape in Cu-Pd alloys. By comparing the results of x-ray and electron stimulated Auger spectroscopies, we are able to separate distinctive surface sensitive contributions to the Cu–M23 VV Auger line shape. The results are discussed within the context of our present understanding of screening and of the systematics of Auger line shapes. Comparison with theory indicates that the observed effects may be due to surface electronic structure changes.Keywords
