Abstract
A transformer-coupled LC-tuned detection method in AES has improved the signal-to-noise ratio of Auger spectra over the conventional CR-coupled detection method. The superior common mode rejection capability makes it possible to use a high-voltage power supply with ripple voltages as high as 30 V peak-to-peak at 50 and 100 Hz for an electron multiplier, without detectable difference in Auger spectra.
