LIPIDS AND PROTEINS OF PLASMA IN PATIENTS WITH DISEASES OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

Abstract
THE BIOCHEMICAL defects in neurological and psychotic disorders are poorly understood. A recent review1 indicates that investigators do not agree on the changes in the lipid constituents of blood plasma associated with epilepsy and the psychoses. Information concerning the effect of nervous diseases on plasma proteins is limited. The data presented in this paper are concerned with analyses of plasma lipids and proteins in patients with a variety of disorders of the nervous system. METHODS AND MATERIAL Twenty-six male medical students and staff members served as controls. The patients were divided into three groups: (a) neurological patients with and without complications; (b) psychotic patients with and without complications, and (c) subjects with a variety of medical and surgical disorders.
