Abstract
The effect of pregnancy on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been extensively studied, including recent prospective studies (1, 2). By contrast, communications on ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and pregnancy have been infrequent (3) and are nearly totally lacking for psoriatic arthritis (PA) (4, 5). In a previous prospective study on 13 AS patients, we reported that pregnancy had no beneficial effect on the symptoms of AS (1). We did note however, that patients with AS accompanied by psoriasis or inflammatory bowel disease had an alleviated disease course during gestation. In this report, the course of PA during and after pregnancy was for the first time studied prospectively in 10 patients. Gestational outcome was compared with the disease course in 9 pregnant AS patients studied during the same period. Keywords
