Abstract
Synopsis A purpose-built coaxial-cylinders viscometer was used to obtain pow curves up to shear rates of 1800s–1. An equation in which the shear rate γ is expressed as a hyperbolic function of τ–τf, where τ is the shear stress and τf is the yield stress was found to fit the lower part of the pow curve and, by using this equation, the values of τf and ηo, the plastic viscosity at zero shear rate, were found. Relationships were then established between these two rheological parameters and the specific surface and concentration of solids.
