Properties of Superconducting NbN and NbCN Single Crystal-Like Thin Films Grown on Single Crystal Substrates

Abstract
Single crystal-like films of NbN and NbCN were epitaxially grown on single crystal substrates of [100]-oriented MgO and [101̄0]-oriented sapphire by rf-reactive sputtering. The films consist of fine grain crystallites slightly misaligned with respect to each other, but in overall alignment with the substrate in the case of MgO. The superconducting transition temperatures of both NbN and NbCN films grown on MgO were slightly lower than those of films simultaneously grown on companion sapphire substrates.
