Abstract
Experimental techniques are presented for (i) a very simple zone melting technique employing a floating zone maintained by an arc which allows preparation of high purity single crystal cathodes, and (ii) a grinding device which allows the LaB6 tips to be ground to a radius of curvature of less than 3 mu m using a metallurgical polishing wheel. Keywords
