Abstract
In Alaska, acute suppurative otitis media has been reported as the second most frequent cause of morbidity in Aleut, Indian, and Eskimo children. A one-year double-blind prospective trial of ampicillin anhydrous taken orally as a prophylactic by 364 Eskimo children under the age of 7, residing in six villages in western Alaska, showed a 47% reduction in the incidence of otitis media. However, for children who took their medication well, the reduction in incidence was 67%.Keywords
