Abstract
Findings are presented from a study on leadership styles used by a sample of pipefitter foreman which were associated with improved worked performance. Information was obtained through personal interviews with foreman at a large midwestern nuclear power plant site currently under construction. Results show that the foreman of more productive crews have several traits in common. These foreman have more foreman experience, they have crew members with whom they have had previous work experience, they tend to be informal in relating to the workers, they are firm in dealing with the workers, they are relatively independent, and they are proud of their crew's achievements. Keywords
