Abstract
Injected uric acid is excreted by the isolated perfused kidney. The concentration of uric acid in urine is dependent upon the concentration of uric acid in the blood and also upon rate of urine flow. Uric acid both in the isolated kidney and in the intact animal has a more or less pronounced diuretic effect. Uric acid is actually secreted by tubular cells of the kidney. In the intact animal it is mainly oxidized rather than excreted, the former occurring to a far greater extent than the latter. This is also true for the heart-lung-liver-kidney preparation. The oxidation pf uric acid takes place in the liver, the product being allantoin. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
