Abstract
A relativistic Hamiltonian analysis of the charged particle motion in the approximate ‘ cylindrical ’ pulsar rotating magnetic field is given. The predicted features of the pulses of Döppler-shifted cyclotron radiation emitted from a region near the light cylinder and the leading edge of the E > cB zone show good agreement with the observations. Some reduction of the assumed surface magnetic field strength may be required however, particularly in the case of the Crab pulsar.
