Abstract
Fifteen endoscopic retrograde cholanigiopancreatographies (ERCP) were performed between 1977-1979 in 13 children aged 2 mo.-13.9 yr (mean 8.9 yr). All studies were done without intubation anesthesia. Main indications were acute (recurrent) biliary stasis, persistent biliary stasis, chronic pancreatitis and congenital malformation of the biliary system or the pancreas. Thirteen of the 15 investigations were successfully concluded. In 9 cases the ductal systems were demonstrated, in 2 cases only the pancreatic or only the biliary ducts were demonstrated. The most frequent abnormal findings were seen in acute biliary stasis (4 of 5 children), persistent biliary stasis (all 4 children) and congenital malformations (2 of 3 children). There were no serious side effects. Except in young infants, for whom there are no properly sized instruments, ERCP in children provides no greater technical difficulties than in adults. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
