Abstract
Findings in this study indicate that military personnel who favorably anticipate retirement are educationally prepared and contrary to common belief, health was not a significant factor in making decisions about retirement. The sample included 562 officers and 878 enlisted men. Analysis of data was accomplished with Pearson Product-moment correlation and χ2 by using the “t” test to show significant differences between military retirement anticipation and several selected independent variables. Further research in this area is planned to determine the retirement adjustment of those studied and the relationship of retirement adjustment to preparation. The findings presented here amplify the need for formal or informal training of potential retirees, particularly “early retirees.”Keywords
