Assays for Biodegradability Essential to Unrestricted Usage of Organic Compounds

Abstract
To prevent further extension of pollution, organic compounds widely spread in nature should' be tested for biodegradability. Growth of microorganisms taken from stock cultures or isolated from “die away” tests and enrichment cultures on these compOunds should be assayed and attempts to determine the enzymes utilized 10r degradation should be undertaken. Broad usage of nonbiodegradable compounds should be disapproved and their spread restricted until degradable isomers or substitutes can be synthesized.
