Abstract
A consistent set of Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov calculations is carried out for the even Sr, Zr, and Mo isotopes in the neutron-deficient region near A=80 and the neutron-rich region near A=100. A common origin for the onset of deformation in both regions is found. Deformation is triggered by the strong neutron-proton interaction in orbitals with good spatial overlap. Keywords
