Abstract
The nature of the aqueous environment has considerable effect on the durability of dental silicate cements. When free from soluble reaction products, cements show little dissolution in the pH range associated with normal saliva, but are drastically attacked by acids and citrates. These observations suggest that phosphates are important constituents of the gel matrix. Keywords
