Abstract
The specific carbohydrate of the Type VIII pneumococcus stimulates the production of homologous type-specific antibodies when given to human subjects by the intracut., subcut. or intraven. route. The optimum dose is 1.0 mgm. given subcut. Smaller doses were more effective when administered intracut. than by the other routes. Doses of 1 or 0.1 mgm. were more effective when given subcut. than when inj. intraven. An intraven. dose of 5 mgm. failed to stimulate antibodies in most individuals; 1 mgm. given in this manner caused a response quite constantly. A small amount of antibodies against Type III pneu-mococci were demonstrated in the sera of occasional subjects who had received injections of the Type VIII carbohydrate. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
