Abstract
This study investigated the value of a computer decision support model to help select the most appropriate out of home placement for youths. Data gathered from a random sample of 50 youths committed to the Texas Youth Commission were used to complete the model's application form. A Pearson-product moment correlation was used to determine if youths, whose placement corresponded to the model's recommendation, were more successful in their placement than youths whose placement did not correspond. The findings indicated that youths placed in agreement with the model were significantly more successful in their placement. Other variables, except nearness of social ties, did not significantly correlate with success. Further evaluative research is recommended which would use a better measure of success and which would explore the importance of nearness of social ties. Keywords
