Abstract
Antisera against hu-man haptoglobin were prepared by inoculating rabbits with purified Hp 2-2. The reactivity of the resulting antisera was studied by immuno-electrophoresis on agar gel, on starch gel and by double gel diffusion according to Ouchterlony. By the latter technique it was shown that some of the antisera could distinguish between Hp 2-2 and Hp 1-1, i.e., spurs were formed when sera of these two haptoglobin types reacted with the specific anti -haptoglobin serum. Absorption of these antisera with Hp 1-1 made them specific for Hp 2-2 and Hp 2-1. Several anti-genically abnormal haptoglobin types are described and evidence for the antigenic micro-heterogeneity of Hp 2-1 is presented. Keywords
