Multi-Agar Columns for Identifying Single Colonies of Enteric Organisms

Abstract
A method has been developed for making columns of agar comprised of layers of 4 types of differential mediums. The multi-agar columns provide a reliable means for demonstrating characteristics of single-colony isolates of enteric bacteria. The simultaneous inoculation technique avoids the need for subculturing when only single colonies are available. Moreover, multi-agar columns facilitate selection of greater numbers of colonies for characterization, thereby increasing the probability of detecting enteric pathogens.
