Hanle Effect in Transitions from the 5s6p and 5s7p1P1 Levels of Strontium and Coherence Narrowing

Abstract
The lifetimes of the 5s6p and 5s7p excited singlet P levels of strontium have been measured using the Hanle effect of the 2932 and 2574 Å transitions to the 5s21S0 level. These lifetimes are compared with those reported previously using the same technique in the 7169 and 5331 Å transitions to the metastable 5s4d1D2 level. The dependence of lifetime on the density of the scattering atoms in the coherence narrowing region has also been determined.
