Colitis and antecedent carcinoma

Abstract
Summary Evidence is provided to show that in three cases of carcinoma associated with colitis, the carcinoma antedated the colitis. The carcinomas were not consequent upon ulcerative colitis. It is suggested that total colectomy is not required in this type of patient because the remainder of the large intestine does not carry the risk of further malignant change as in chronic ulcerative colitis.
