Abstract
The Structure of Aragonite.—A structure is proposed for aragonite which is in accord with all observed facts. As in calcite, each carbon atom is bonded (by double bonds) to three oxygen atoms, each oxygen to two calciums and one carbon, and each calcium to six oxygens, at the corners of an irregular octahedron. The distortions of the structure are considerable; their magnitudes and causes are discussed. Keywords
