Abstract

Using a phenomenological

V + A

coupling for the weak vertex

Λ \to N + π

, a simple model of the decays

Σ \to N + π

is constructed under the assumption of odd

Σ Λ

parity. The model predicts that

α_{0} \approx - α_{Λ}

and that the decay

Σ^{-} \to n + π^{-} (Σ^{+} \to n + π^{+})

is essentially pure s wave (p wave).
