Abstract
A technique is described in which a strictly charge-independent optical potential for nucleons is derived from empirical neutron and proton potentials which provide optimum fits to the available data. Predictions for the () charge-exchange reaction on and are made by solving the coupled Lane equations exactly. It is found that both angular-distribution and excitation-function data are fitted quite well, without adjustable parameters.
