It is a satisfaction to call attention to the twenty-first volume of this great work. Of the twenty-three volumes that are to appear the first, the sixth the thirteenth, the fifteenth and the nineteenth have already been published and, from the prompt appearance of this volume, it seems reasonable to hope that they will continue to appear rapidly until the monumental undertaking is completed. When the previous volumes were reviewed, attention was called to the encyclopedic character of the undertaking, and appreciation is expressed for renewed evidence which this book gives of the great vitality and the thorough scholarship of German dermatologists. As one reads this volume, one is reimpressed with these things. It is a volume of 551 pages, large octavo, which is taken up with a consideration of what one might characterize as the loose ends of the subjects of the system — soft chancre, which is given
