Rate of Development, Viability, Vigor, and Virulence of Ascaridia galli Ova Cultured Respectively in Air and in Water

Abstract
Development of ova was more rapid in water than in air cultures (90% relative humidity), and also there was a larger percentage of viable ova. These larvae, when experimentally fed to chickens, revealed no significant difference between the numbers of worms, but the worms from air-cultured ova grew at a significantly faster rate than those from water-cultured ova. The larvae from the 2 types of cultures showed no differences in virulence as indicated by weight gains made by the chickens to which they were fed.
