Abstract
Following curative resection for human gastrointestinal cancer, the blast formation rate rises slightly 3-4 mo. before the recurrence of cancer and during the 2 mo. prior to recurrence, the blast formation rate of peripheral blood lymphocytes to PHA [phytohemagglutinin] decreases rapidly. The blast formation rate, if monitored routinely postoperatively, should be a significant improvement in predicting any recurrence of cancer.
