Abstract
A new species of the scleractinian genus Blastomussa is described as B. loyae sp. nov. It differs in mode of colony formation from the phaceloid members of the genus, exhibiting a combination of cerioid and subcerioid growth. Because of this, the original definition of Blastomussa is extended, and a new subgenus Ceriomorpha proposed, containing only B. (Ceriomorpha) loyae. The previously established species are placed within the subgenus Blastomussa, as B. (Blastomussa) merleti (Wells, 1961), and B.(B.) wellsi Wijsman-Best, 1973. B.(C.) loyae is so far known only from the Red Sea.This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
