Abstract
Autogenous and homogenous grafts of articular cartilage and subchondral bone were transplanted to the knee and wrist in 42 adult mongrel dogs and studied histologically at intervals varying from 5-500 days. Autogenous transplants were often sucessful, but homogenous transplants eventually showed degenerative changes and disintegration with function or weight bearing. Focal areas of the articular cartilage persisted and remained viable for a year or more even in homografts. Whether autogenous or homogenous, transplants of articular cartilage in muscle degenerated and eventually were entirely absorbed. Keywords
