Light scattering from aqueous solutions of octylsulphinylalkanols

Abstract
The turbidities and viscosities of dilute aqueous solutions of three n-octylsulphinylalkanols (C8H17˙ SO ˙(CH2)n˙ OH, n= 2,3,4) have been determined in the dilute solution region. The light-scattering data show large deviations from ideal behaviour for even dilute micellar solutions. The results have been discussed in terms of two limiting processes, interaction between micelles of constant size and the reversible aggregation of a primary micellar unit. The viscosities of these solutions are most readily interpreted in terms of the aggregation model.
