Abstract
Coprecipitated powders of alumina—zirconia, prepared from inorganic salts, crystallized differently than either of the constituents by themselves. Whereas alumina or zirconia, prepared in a similar way, began to crystallize at 370°C, the crystallization of the alloy was delayed until 800°C. When hot‐pressed under 40 MPa at 1400°C, the coprecipitated powders developed crystallographic texture in the α‐alumina phase. Preferred crystal growth under a uniaxial stress is offered as a possible explanation for the crystallographic texture. Keywords
