Forty-eight isolates of Neisseria meningitides were recovered from 2,604 sputum cultures which were examined for the presence of this organism. Nine patients from this group had meningococcal pneumonia. Of all patients with pneumonia during a 7-month period, 4.5% had meningococcal pneumonia.
