Abstract
No one knows at present whether halothane is toxic to the liver. For several years a study¶ to determine the answer to this question has been going on. It is now completed and a summary report has been issued.1 Although the study did not provide an absolute answer to the question, it did provide a quantitative one: if halothane induces liver disease, the occurrences are at least uncommon if not rare.The summary report itself is rather long and probably will not be completely read by all those concerned.
