Contrasting Actions of Cis- and Trans-Clomiphene on the Release of FSH and FSH-RF in the Female Rat

Abstract
An investigation was carried out on the effect of cis-clomiphene and trans-clomiphene upon the release of FSH in the oophorectomized, estrogen-progesterone blocked rat. Contrasting actions of the cis-isomers and trans-isomers could be shown. Cis-clomiphene was found to lower the hypothalamic content of FSH-RF and of pituitary FSH. As a consequence, there was a rise of plasma FSH in inverse proportions. The injection of 150 µg/rat proved to be most effective. When higher doses were given the level of plasma FSH fell, and the pituitary FSH and hypothalamic FSH-RF content rose.
