Abstract
Muscle action potentials were recorded from 4 body locations in human subjects while subjects were subjected to tones just above and just below threshold. Subjects signalled the end of a tone if it was heard. Muscular activity was found to occur to stimuli both above and below threshold, during and immediately following the stimulus. These responses increase with repeated trials and vary with stimulus intensity. Stimulus threshold varies inversely with log of the pre-stimulus tension. A theory of the double thresholds, (motor response and subject''s report) is suggested.
