Abstract
The Department of Health and Human Services is finalizing plans for a U.S. vaccination program against smallpox. As more vaccinia virus vaccine has become available, the debate over how many persons to vaccinate has centered on two issues: the safety of the live vaccine and the transmissibility of vaccinia virus from a recently vaccinated person to a susceptible host. Keywords
